What are art box subscription services?

Art box subscriptions provide everything you need for a new creative project each month.  Plus, you’ll get the encouragement to actually do some art each month.  Art boxes come with art supplies, a project, and instructions.  You’ll get quality supplies curated by artists like paints, brushes, canvases, and more.  Some boxes include a discounted option to skip the supplies if you already have plenty.   Depending on the art box you can choose to receive a new box each month or quarterly.  And most have options to pause your subscription anytime.

Benefits of subscribing to an art box service.

Art boxes provide a super easy way to explore your creativity without having to leave your home.   And you don’t have to spend time shopping for supplies or guess which supplies are the right ones.  One of my favorite benefits is discovering new techniques and styles.  Receiving a new box each month or quarter can keep your creative juices flowing.  And give you the encouragement to make time for your creative practice.  Many art boxes offer online communities, which allow you to connect with other artists.  You can share your work for feedback and inspiration.

What’s the importance of a creative practice?

A creative practice is more than just a way to make art.  It’s also a great way to reduce stress, tap into your intuition and take care of yourself.  Studies show that a creative practice can help to improve focus which helps to distract from stressful thoughts or worries.  Basically by focusing on the process of creation, you give your mind a mental break from all the day-to-day worries.    In studies with cancer patients, a creative practice helped to distract from thoughts of their illness and increase positive emotions.1

And by making being creative a habit you can reap even more benefits.  And what better way to make sure you have everything you need than an art box subscription? Doing art is a great way to practice mindfulness. Mindful art is about taking the time to be mindful of your thoughts and feelings that come up.   Art is often a trigger for your inner critic.  And being mindful of that experience can you help to reduce negative self-talk.  Mindful art practices can help to reduce stress and begin to notice your emotions.

Types of art box subscriptions available.

There are many different types of art box subscriptions available to try.  Most offer a mix of styles and materials so you can try out lots of different types and styles of art.  Some subscriptions are specific for adults while some offer options just for kids.  A lot of art box services offer themed boxes, such as seasonal or holiday-inspired kits.  This can be a great way to connect to seasonal transitions.

How to choose the right art box subscription for you.

When choosing an art box subscription, consider your interests and skill level. And what is the intended purpose of your art practice?  Do you want to learn new skills, hone your current skills or simply have fun and create something?  If you are new to art, look for a subscription that is for beginners. If you want to practice a specific medium, such as watercolor or drawing, look for a subscription that focuses on that medium.  Consider how often you’ll receive the box and the cost.  Check to see if the box offers the option to pause or cancel without a fee.  With so many options available, I’m positive you’ll find an art box subscription that is perfect for you!

My favorite art box subscriptions

There are so many cool art box subscription services available!   Each art box has its own unique approach to a creative practice.

Some popular options include:

Master Peace Box

This art box is all about practicing mindful and meditative art.  Each month you receive a curated art selection from different artists.  I like the variety of projects and how each one is focused on how art can be relaxing and creative. The box includes all the supplies you’ll need.  You’ll also receive an invite to a live-streaming session with the artist as well as a meditation session.  And there’s always a replay available in case you can’t make it live. I absolutely loved the supplies and the intentional mindful practice this box provides.  It’s $34 dollars per month and you can pause or cancel at any time without a fee.

The Crafter’s Box

This art box ranges from painting to candle making to cake making.  This art box offers a delightful range of activities.  Perfect if you’re looking to explore all different types of arts and crafts!  They offer an online-only community option to connect to other artists.  There’s also a monthly box option which starts at $65 per month. Or a bundle to get access to both the community and the box.  You get all the supplies you need and awesome live tutorials.  The finished projects are beautiful and high quality. I love this box because of the variety of projects and the quality of supplies provided.  You always have the option to skip a month or get a gift card instead to use in the online shop.

Let’s Make Art

These art boxes are beautiful and provide wonderful high-quality supplies.  You get all your supplies, easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions, and examples of the finished project.  There’s also a postcard included that you’re encouraged to send.  Each box has a little story about an inspiring artist, woman, or teacher.  I think is such a great way to support other artists.  They currently offer a quarterly watercolor program for $120.  This comes with your supplies (brushes not included) and live tutorials from their watercolor expert, Sarah Cray (who is amazing!).  They also have a shop where you can buy past boxes without a subscription usually at a discount.

Breathe People

Does anyone remember paint-by-number?  I used to love those kits when I was little!  But I had long forgotten this creative way to relax.  This art box includes elevated paint-by-number projects.  For $32, you get the numbered design, paints, and paint brushes.  You can also upgrade and get a frame to display your artwork for only $16 more.  Currently, there’s not a subscription option but once you experience this meditative creative practice I’m sure you’ll want to order more.

Paletteful Packs

This art box subscription includes high-quality art supplies from brands like Liquidtex and Golden Acrylics.  You’ll also receive a curated selection of inspiration and prompts each month.  A variety of subscriptions lets you find the shipping option that best suits you.  Plus, there are 3 different box size options to choose from. A premier box (which includes more awesome supplies), a petite option, and a kid’s box.   The petite box is $26 per month.  The premier is $37 per month.   And the young artist’s box is $32 per month. This price point is super impressive for the quality of supplies provided.  You do have to pay for shipping which was $5 for one box but may vary depending on the order and your location.

Let’s Connect!

I hope you’ll find the perfect art box for you from my favorites.  By having all your supplies and inspiration you’re all set to begin your creative practice.  I teach women how to reconnect to their creativity so that they can find more mindful moments in their day.  If you want a fun way to relax and feel creative check out my online course, Becoming Blissful with Mindful Art.  You’ll learn how to create a mindful art practice that helps you feel calmer and more joyful.
