Easy Workout: How to Create Yours
Last Updated on November 15, 2022 by Tracey McGrath
Fit exercise into your busy schedule? That’s as absurd as saying that there are eight days in a week. Creating an easy workout routine can be life-changing and life-saving!
But what if you’ve never exercised before or regularly played a sport? Second, you’ve never been into the fitness crowd. And third, you’re far too busy to even think about exercise. In other words, you know it’s important for your health but you don’t know where to begin.
Of course, your friends talk about it and rave about the latest fitness craze, but you’ve seen it too often, some of them are on the “on-again-off-again” treadmill/stair master mania, and you wonder why they haven’t stuck with it. Seeing what your friends go through and not seeing any results, you cling to the notion that your total lack of interest is justified.
Stop Shoulding on Yourself
You know exercise is good for your health. But thinking about it as something you should do isn’t helping you actually do it. Consider adding some easy workouts in your life to get started. Try switching the word “should” to “could”. I should exercise today become I could exercise today. Now you have empowered yourself to make the choice for yourself. The top 3 health concerns that people face today are all easily preventable with a balanced diet and regular exercise: Osteoporosis, Heart Disease, and Diabetes. And yes, it can be easy!
How Exercise Improves Mental Health?
The fitness queen, Denise Austin, believes you’ll quickly experience some noticeable benefits when you make exercise part of your daily routine.
Proven benefits include:
- Increase energy
- Improve sleep
- Improve mood
- Stress reduction
- Weight reduction
- Reduce blood pressure and cholesterol
How Do You Create An Easy Workout?
Start where you’re at. Habits are behaviors repeated over and over again until they become our routine. An easy workout is the best way to begin exercising. You want to choose activities that you enjoy and do them in a way that feels easy to you. This is the best way to ensure success!
Select a time that feels adequate and then dial it back to where you know you can achieve success. Does taking a 20-minute walk feel like you’ll never find the opportunity? Then you won’t. Dial it back until it feels EASY. Does a 10-minute or even a 5-minute walk sound easier? That’s totally doable!
An easy workout can be as simple as using the stairs during your normal workday. Or walking around the block a few times after dinner. Yes, it may not get you to break a sweat necessarily but it gets you moving more than you were. And it’s intentional. You’re making the choice to do something different! And that’s the key to BIG changes!
Easy-to-implement Ways to Get Started:
Cubicle Fitness
Just as ergonomic experts recommend that office workers take their eyes off their computer screen every hour or so, fitness experts are advocating getting up from your chair and taking a brisk walk up and down the stairs. When you feel the need to take a break, offer to pick up supplies for your colleagues, take the mail downstairs, or think of something you could put in your car instead of waiting until 5 pm. That way, you force yourself to get up from your seat and walk for a few minutes.
Family Exercises Can Be Easy Workouts!
On the weekends when you join the family in their activities, try to integrate exercise into these activities: if the kids are into cycling, join them for bike rides. Are they off to their swimming lessons or skating lessons? See if you can sign up in the adult’s section, or take a walk outside the recreational center while waiting for them.
Get Outdoors for Easy Workouts!
Who says you can’t burn calories while doing gardening? Take a breather from your hectic schedule and devote some down time to tending to your lawn or trimming your rose bushes. These outdoor activities can be fun and allow you some much-needed time in nature. Being in nature reduces stress and improves your mood.
Walk, Don’t Drive!
Park your car far away so you can walk to the front door of the office, to the entrance of the mall, to the doctor’s office and to the post office.
Just start by incorporating 10-20 minutes of movement a day that you wouldn’t normally do and watch your health increase! Remember, a walk or kicking a ball is exercise too!
Try Yoga
Yoga is one of my favorite easy workouts. There are many different types of yoga practices but for an easy workout try a gentle yoga practice. These strengthen and stretch your muscles and allow you to relax by focusing on your breathing. Check out Strala yoga or Yogaworks for a great selection of different types of yoga. Gentle yoga practices not only give your body an easy workout but also help to reduce stress. Grab a yoga mat and yoga blocks to try it out!
